Base Building for Cyclists

Base training isn’t about just puttering around slowly on your bike.

During base training we improve the body’s ability to burn fat, shuttle and utilize lactate, and build a metabolic support physiology for the anaerobic system, while also developing functional strength off the bike.

Success in cycling events requires focused training on the specific fitness elements, at the appropriate time, that leads to a beneficial balance of the aerobic and anaerobic metabolic systems, that best addresses the demands of each event.

Specific forms of relevant high intensity training is critical to success in cycling, but doing too much, all the time, can lead to injuries, plateaus, detraining of the aerobic system, and burn out.
